He won the U.S. Open, French Open and Wimbledon in 1958 and in 1959, he won the Australian Open.

In 1961, Buchholz turned professional and by 1962, he went home victorious after the United States Pro Championship. After his retirement, he served as the Commissioner of World Team Tennis from 1977 to 1978. And from 1981 through 1982, he worked for Association of Tennis Professionals  as the Executive Director. In 2005, Butch Buchholz was officially inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame at Newport, Rhode Island.
