The film will be helmed by Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts and written by Derek Connolly, known for Jurassic World and Kong: Skull Island.

Konami’s Metal Gear video game series, which was created by Hideo Kojima, debuted in 1987. In Metal Gear Solid, which was released the following year, a renegade genetically-enhanced special forces unit, FOXHOUND, has taken over a remote island in Alaska's Fox Archipelago codenamed Shadow Moses, which is the site of a nuclear weapons disposal facility.

FOXHOUND threatens to use the nuclear-capable mecha, Metal Gear REX, to attack the US government if they do not receive the remains of Big Boss and a ransom of $1 billion within 24 hours. Solid Snake is encouraged to leave retirement by Colonel Roy Campbell to infiltrate the island and neutralize the threat.

Metal Gear Solid sold more than seven million copies worldwide and shipped 12 million demos. It scored an average of 94/100 on Metacritic. It is considered one of the greatest video games of all time and helped popularize the stealth genre and in-engine cinematic cutscenes. It was followed by an expanded version for PlayStation and Windows, Metal Gear Solid: Integral in 1999, and a GameCube remake, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes in 2004, as well as, numerous sequels.

David Hayter, the actor and screenwriter who wrote 2000's X-Men, voiced the character in the series. Isaac has stated in the past that Solid Snake was the video game character he'd most like to portray. The actor is also attached to star in the Marvel Studios series Moon Knight on Disney+ as well as in the comic book adaptation The Great Machine, a variation of Brian K. Vaughan series Ex Machina.

In addition, he is set to star as Francis Ford Coppola in Francis and the Godfather, about the making of The Godfather and is scheduled to debut Dune with Timothée Chalamet in December 2021.
